Professor David Egan, a special advisor for education to the Welsh Assembly and Director of the Centre for Applied Education Research at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff, recommended that ITV visited Barry Comprehensive School to film their “Wales This Week” programme on the School Effectiveness Framework.

The Welsh Assembly initiative is encouraging schools to share good practice and Professor Egan believed that Barry Comprehensive was the right school to appear in the programme.

This entailed the film crew following a pupil through the school day and Daniel Saunders was in the spotlight from the moment he woke up until he had completed his lessons.

Daniel, a year 10 student, was not daunted by the early morning visit to his home, and coped well with the pressure of having a camera following him through his lessons.

The programme wanted to highlight how the school had improved its performance dramatically over recent years with its focus on teaching and learning, its embracing of the vocational agenda and as a result how it could share its good practice with schools throughout Wales.

“Wales This Week” is scheduled for 7.00 p.m. on 25 February and everyone at the school is looking forward to watching the programme.
