Barry Comprehensive School welcomed new and returning pupils to school this week
This year saw another massive intake into Year 12, with students from all the local secondary schools choosing to continue their studies at Barry Comprehensive.
The new Year 7 pupils began their first day with a special assembly before finding their way to their new classroom and meeting their new teachers. This year’s Year 7 pupils are the first to use the school’s new cashless catering system. The system allows pupils and staff to buy healthy lunches and tasty treats from the canteen quickly and securely with the touch of a finger on a scanner, so no more lost dinner money!
Year 7 pupils in the Music Dept also tried out some of the percussion instruments that will feature in a two day Percussion Festival to be held at the school on the 8th and 9th of October. 2011 From tubular bells to timpani, pupils of grade 3 and above (who can read music) are invited to come and play with some of the UK’s best players. Including Colin Currie, one of the worlds leading chamber percussionists, Simone Rebello,Director of Percussion studies at RNCM and Equivox Trio, Dave Danford who has performed with Pete Tong and Judge Jules and Elliott Bennett who performs with the Dave Stapleton quintet and D.E.R Collective. As well as these individuals, the RWCMD percussion ensemble and tutors from BBC NOW and WNO Orchestras will be attending the weekend’s mixture of master-classes, concerts and rehearsals. Information about attending the festival can be found at www.barrycomp.com. |
