On Thursday 13th October, Year 11 BTEC Performing Arts students wowed an audience of 140 people with their hilarious and farcical production of “Macbeth: Well Almost”.
The performance formed part of their devising plays examination. The students were responsible for creating and developing all aspects of the production (Lights, Sound, Projections, Set, Costume, and Script).

The task they were set way back in June was to adapt and modernise the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare. The aim of the project was to make the story and characters more accessible to a modern audience and to enable students in years 7 – 9 to be able to access the stories of Shakespeare in a more entertaining way.

The group decided to completely modernise the play by setting it in the present day and focusing on some of the most recognisable figures in the public eye today – Politicians.
The result was a highly entertaining production that had the audience laughing out loud and with many commenting “this was the funniest thing I have seen in a long time” and “I was certainly not expecting to see something that good”. Other comments reflected on how professional the cast were and how impressed the audience were with the standard of the work on show.

Mr Piekielniak and Mr Hilbourne (BTEC Tutors) commented: “The cast and crew deserve a lot of praise for what they achieved with the production. They have worked with commitment and dedication to ensure that the work on show was of the highest possible standard. It was an absolute pleasure working with them on this project and we can’t wait to start work on our next topic”.

The drama department will continue to promote Shakespeare over the next few months with a production of Macbeth (in its original form) being performed after Christmas.
