Assessment guide

Problems can arise if you ignore these instructionsYou will hand in your folders of work and projects on the given dates. Write the precise dates in your planners

There is a list of the main activities in your study pack. These form part of the project.

Late work will not be accepted.

Letters and follow up phone calls will be used to notify parents if work is not handed in by the due deadlines.

Each folder of work or project should contain the following evidence of learning skills:

• research based on information from a book
• evidence of questionnaires and interviews with people.
• information downloaded from the Internet
• information taken from a CD Rom
• drawn graphs or tables which have been analysed
• some work which you have been given by a friend in return for work of yours

You should use Word processing in your project.
 

Year 10

Introductory Core – Society and the Individual

This project will consist of research into the various ideas about what people consider is normal behaviour and how they get their ideas about what is normal and what is right or wrong.

You may use a variety of subject areas or you can concentrate on one of the following:

A society which is different from our own

The way in which we learn how to behave according to our gender.

Due date: the last Friday before October half term

 
The Family

This project will consist of research into the various forms that families can take in our society and the way that families have changed. You can either produce a scrap book of ideas or you can make up a little research project.

Due date: the last Friday before February half term

 
Social Inequalities (Differentiation)

This project will consist of research into any aspect of inequality such as racism, sexism or ageism that you find interesting and you can look at a variety of topics or concentrate on one special area. The main focus will be on how understadning how people are affected by forms of prejudice and discrimination. If you need further help, see your teacher.

Due date: the last Friday before May bank holiday.

 
Inequality and class

This project will look at any form of inequality based on class and wealth. You can apply the ideas to a study of lifestyles or you can collect information to prove whether you feel class is important in our society.

Due date: the last week of term

 
Coursework project

Choose your title by the end of the summer term

 
Year 11

Research Module

You will work through the unit on research methods and all of your work will be handed in after October half term. It is expected that you should have finished the preparation work and be ready to write your report and start your revision for mocks in November.

Research report first draft

Rough notes will be acceptable in places

Due date: Before the Christmas holiday

Research report second draft

This should be as close to finished work as you can manage

Due date: the last Friday in January

• If you wish, you may produce an extra assignment based on work or work experience.Please see your teacher for support, help and ideas

Due date: the last Friday in February

 
Deviance

This should be on any element of crime and deviance that interests you. Look at social reasons why people commit crime or find what you can about what crimes are reported and why they are reported.

Due date: the last Friday in February

Additional packs of work covering all aspects of the syllabus are available for those who would like to develop their understandings.

 
Revision Exercises Module

You will have a study pack consisting of a variety of exercises and stimulus materials. You will hand in each exercise as it is completed. A good personal target would be two exercises each week. It is a bad idea to leave revision to the last momen, so work steadily and regularly at your subjects.

Please note:

• Your teaching staff will mark and check any work that you produce if you wish for this to be done.

• The responsibility for the accuracy of the records that are kept in your work folders is your own.

• Project work consists of information that you have gathered and processed in some way. This can look like a scrapbook but it cannot be entered for examination.

• Coursework must follow the research work pattern of:

Formulation of Investigation
Methods
Results and conclusions
Evaluation of methods used and of findings

If you feel that you have problems or difficulties, then you must see your teachers in plenty of time. They are there to help you.
