The Head of Department is Janis Griffiths, BA (hons), PGCE, M.Ed., Dip. Ed. Man., Cert Ed. Media.

She is a regular contributor of articles to Social Science Teacher and has published work on research and teaching methodologies in a wide number of other journals and academic publications including the TES, The Guardian and Managing Education Today.

She is co-author of Sociology texts for Hodder and Stoughton in the Access to Sociology series and Active Sociology (2000) for Longmans. Her most recent work has been Sociology since 1995 with Jonathan Blundell for Connect Publications. The second volume of this series is due for publication in 2003. She is working on a major new project with Jonathan Blundell and Pat McNeill for Nelson Thornes.

Mrs Griffiths is Chief Examiner for GCSE Sociology with the Welsh Joint Education Committee and Resources Editor for the Association of Social Science Teachers.
