Barry Comprehensive is the first school in the Vale to follow the BUSK Minibus Complete training course and receive BUSK (Belt-Up School Kids) accreditation. The course promotes vehicular safety by addressing vehicle engineering, the legal responsibilities of organisations and drivers, driver training and assessment and passenger safety. Staff who drive the minibuses for school trips, educational visits and sporting events received training and a driving assessment from the BUSK instructors. The programme of training is ongoing, with the aim that all staff who regularly drive the school minibuses will receive accreditation by the end of the school year. Pupils gave up part of their day-off to take part in the training and learned the correct procedure to follow in case of an accident, from exiting the vehicle to roadside safety and summoning help.
