James Sullivan Makes The Grade

James SullivanBarry Comprehensive School Year 7 pupil James Sullivan has some amazing achievements under his belt – his 2nd degree black belt that is.

James achieved his 1 st degree black belt in Tae-Kwon Do at the age of nine and then trained hard for two years to prepare for his 2nd degree grading. This included time at a training camp in Belgium, held by Grand Master Mr Karel van Orsouw, which involved training in water, climbing sand mountains and running 5 miles after a 6am wake-up call.

In December 2004 James was awarded ‘Student of the Year' by Mr Ronald Thomas, his instructor at the Cadoxton Community Centre. More recently, James competed in the Brussels Open in Belgium where he placed first in Patterns and runner-up in Weapons.

James is aiming to sit his 3rd degree black belt in five years time but is currently preparing for his coaching exam by helping his five year old sister Charlotte with her training. Charlotte recently passed her 1 st colour belt grading with an A grade and won the best grading shield for the club!

James says that Tae Kwon-Do is a great way to keep fit and make lots of good friends and urges anyone interested in learning more to contact the Cadoxton Community Centre. Well done James, keep up the good work!
