Sam In Demand - Update

Sam Motton

Sam Motton, a Year 11 pupil at Barry Comprehensive School is certainly very much in demand at the moment. As a qualified ice hockey referee, he is appointed as an official in the English Ice Hockey Association Division 1 league matches. His travels have taken him to the Midlands, Isle of Wight and he officiated in the main arena in Nottingham.

His biggest game to date has been the top of the table clash between Basingstoke and Oxford. Sam is obviously one of the youngest in the country officiating at this high level and expects to be involved in Premier league games next season.

He has experience of the game as a player but thrives on the pressure of making big decisions.

Representing Great Britain

Last year we reported on the achievements of Barry Comprehensive pupil Sam Motton, a qualified Ice Hockey referee, who officiates at English Ice Hockey Association Division 1 league matches.

Sam is travelling further a field in February, having been selected by Ice Hockey UK to represent Great Britain at the Under 16 International Ice Hockey Federation Development Camp in Eindhoven, The Netherlands .

This is the sixth year that Great Britain has been involved in the Development Camp programme, which offers participants the opportunity to compete and learn in an international environment.
