Open Evening & Primary Visit Day

Barry Comprehensive School welcomed the parents and families of pupils from all the local primary schools to an Open Evening on September 28 th.

Staff from every department invited visitors into their classrooms, laboratories and workshops to enjoy lessons, experiments and presentations. Current pupils were also on hand to talk to the visitors about their experiences and to demonstrate the skills and knowledge they have acquired since joining the school.

The following Friday, 5 th October 2006, Barry Comprehensive welcomed 600 children from local primary schools for a day of fun and learning.

The children took part in a huge range of lessons, making good use of the schools science laboratories, technology workshops, drama & music studios and computer suites and experiencing many of the lessons they can look forward to in secondary education. Despite the poor weather, there was plenty of physical activity in the form of basketball in the Sports Hall.

Both events are regular occurrences at Barry Comprehensive and are designed to introduce pupils and parents to the school and the teachers in order to make the transition from primary to secondary a less scary prospect. Judging by the positive comments from pupils and parents we can look forward to another great Year 7 next September.
