Barry Comprehensive School pupils will be taking over the ITV Wales News 'and finally' item after securing first place in a Wales-wide competition.

The competition invited entrants to come up with a suitable report for the ‘and finally’ spot with winners being given the chance to research, film and produce their report. Head of Media Studies Jane Edwards encouraged pupils in her Year 9 English class to enter the competition.

Pupils Robert Clough, Jac Limbrick and Robert Sheppard teamed up to produce the winning report highlighting the fate of the Theatre Royal cinema, which closed in 2008

The boys have been filmed at school, in Barry and in Cardiff for the report as well as conducting their own interviews with the public. The youngsters told producers how they envisaged the story looking, interviewed people in Barry, and will spend time supervising the editing process.

The report will be aired at the end of the 6PM ITV Wales news on the 24 February 2010.
