School Council Elections

Barry Comprehensive’s School Council held its annual whole school election this week with an impressive turnout

The process is designed to mirror the general election but unlike the general election, over 80% of the 1400 pupils voted and many classes reported a 100% turnout. Pupils enjoyed voting and took the process very seriously.

This year’s elections were superbly organised by Mrs Kennedy’s year 12 Welsh Baccalaureate group as part of the Working with Others Wider Key Skill.

Each form group voted for one pupil to represent them at the Year Council. Each Year Council then selects two members to represent their views at the School Council. The School Council can look forward to a busy year and hope to build on the progress made last year, especially in terms of recycling, charity fund raising and community participation.

Pupils this year also had the opportunity to vote for two members of their year to join the schools eco-committee. The eco committee will be working hard this year to tackle a number of environmental issues in the school and have set themselves the bold target of gaining the Eco-Schools Green Flag.

The results of both the School Council and Eco-committee results have been announced in assemblies and the newly elected members are keen to get started as soon as possible.
