Barry Comprehensive School welcomed Mrs Jane Hutt (AM) to the school last week to discuss concerns over the lack of a pedestrian crossing near the Colcot Road and Winston Road junction. It is an extremely busy route to school for many pupils and there have been a number of accidents involving pedestrians over the last few years.

Last year, the school made a successful bid to the Welsh Assembly Government under the ‘Safer Routes to School Initiative’. The funds were used to improve access for cyclists to the school and provide new bicycle shelters that are a very popular addition to the school’s facilities.

Mrs Hutt commented, "I was delighted to hear that more and more pupils are now cycling to school and the Welsh Assembly Government funding for Safer Routes to Schools is already making a difference at Barry Comprehensive School. I am also pressing for action to be taken to provide a pedestrian crossing on Colcot Road at the busy junction by the Sports Centre and Winston Road - where a pupil was knocked down on September 11th. I have raised this issue with the police, the Vale of Glamorgan Council and the Transport Minister."
