Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning

Lots of schools and offices would have been eating cake last Friday for the Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, but Barry Comprehensive decided to celebrate with a difference by getting staff and pupils involved in a cake-baking competition, or ‘cake-off’!

Ms. Allen encouraged the Welsh Baccalaureate pupils to get involved and the sixth form prefects donned aprons to bake.

On Thursday a team of judges sampled a range of cake before deciding that Mrs. Kennedy’s blueberry and lemon cake was the winner.

On Friday pupils ate cake at tutorial time (year 7 form teachers got very chocolaty over cornflake cakes and rice crispy cakes) and then enjoyed hot chocolate and more cake at break.

Alan Cairns, Assembly Minister, joined us to support Macmillan and eat cake at break and ended up teaching an impromptu politics lesson.

The cake off and coffee mornings were great fun, and also raised £277 for MacMillan, a very worthwhile charity.

Thanks to all the staff and pupils who gave up their time so readily. But then there was cake involved….
