The experience of live, professional theatre is an important part of the curriculum at Barry Comprehensive. The Drama Department invite local and national theatre companies into the classroom, as often as they can, and last month Theatr Iolo performed their touring production of “Missing” to Drama classes in Years 11 to 13.

The story revolves around a brother and sister surviving desperate circumstances, through a rich mix of imaginative power, loyalty, love and sheer cunning. “Missing” is a modern fairytale performed by four brilliant actors who inspired our own young actors on the day. There was an excellent discussion after the play, with the actors and the pupils questioning some of the actions of the characters. Our audience were challenged to think about the story reflecting a modern urban trauma with poor children surviving desperate times. Our pupils raved about the play for days after, exclaiming it was a deeply moving and shocking play. High praise from our very critical audience.

Theatr Iolo are returning in February to perform yet another new play, “The Ugly Truth” and this time Years 9 and 10 will be watching – they can’t wait!
